Our firm focuses on criminal defense, traffic cases, juvenile law (delinquency and dependency), and family law. We know that times are tough so our goal is to provide high quality legal representation at reasonable prices to the people of the Portland Metro Area including Clark County.

Example cases

State v. B - DUI - The officer saw client stopped at a stoplight holding a cell phone to her ear. She took the phone away from her ear before moving again. The officer stopped her because of her cell phone use and ended up arresting her for DUI. Washington law only prohibits holding a cell phone to your ear in a moving vehicle. We challenged the stop and the case was dismissed.

State v. G - DUI - The officer said he saw my client cross over the fog line once and through the gore point (the area triangular area at the end of an exit ramp). He pulled my client over and charged him with DUI. We challenged the stop and, because nothing our client did caused a danger to anyone else, all evidence was suppressed and the prosecutor dismissed the case.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

We believe flat-fee pricing is a benefit to everyone. Clients have a clear expectation of the costs in their case and we can avoid delivering unpleasant surprises later. The flat fee will vary depending on the type of case, the complexity of the case and the number of counts. Traffic infractions are usually around $400; misdemeanors are $1,500-$2,000; felonies are start at $3,000. Our flat fees are negotiable to a certain extent and I give discounts for multiple count cases. We're happy to discuss payment plans.

Traffic tickets can be big trouble!

If you received a traffic ticket, you have to make the decision to fight the ticket or pay the fine.

You should carefully consider this decision if you are concerned about your driving record or your insurance rates. Most of the cost of a ticket comes later â in those increased rates or loss of opportunities because of a poor driving record. Furthermore, certain convictions in the right combination can lead to the suspension of your driverâs license.

Yes. Clients set the goals and we do our best to help them reach those goals. If a client only wants our help in part of their case, we're happy to limit the scope of our representation as they see fit.

We're a two-attorney office. We keep our work cost-effective for our clients by working quickly, efficiently and charging more reasonable rates than other attorneys.

We use mediation, arbitration, negotiation and collaborative law to resolve cases whenever it will be in the best interest of our clients.

We participate in the Oregon State Bar's Modest Means program to help low-income get legal help.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Our primary goal is to help our clients reach their goals. We listen to my clients and care about what happens to them.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We like to have a client that is knowledgeable about the legal issues in his or her case. A client often comes to the law with fresh eyes and can come up with creative legal arguments. We've won cases based on clients' ideas!

Absolutely. We're happy to help clients access the legal system any way we can.

For most of my life I'ÂÂve worked in helping professions. Before I came to the law I worked for WashingtonÃ¢Â's Department of Social and Health Services. I helped people get food stamps; I signed them up for reduced-cost childcare; I made sure they got the benefits that kept them from falling through the cracks.

I first felt the calling to become an attorney when an elderly gentleman called me looking for help. He'd been wrongly denied benefits in the past but that was only the beginning of his problems. He faced legal problems -ÂÂ criminal charges and eviction -ÂÂ and he couldn'ÂÂt find anyone to help him. I wanted to help him but couldn'ÂÂt. I felt that if I were an attorney I could truly help people in dire straits.

A short while later, I enrolled in law school.

Even before I was an attorney I continued working to help others. During law school I worked as intern with the Oregon Department of Justice helping to get kids away from abusive situations. When an opportunity arose to directly help people - through criminal defense work - I jumped at it.

My goal is to provide help to those who need it in a zealous, thorough, and compassionate manner. I first decided that I would become a lawyer at the age of ten, and have never once wavered in this decision. This decision was made after my mother became a foster parent. I saw how horribly the legal system can trample people, even children in need of protection from the state. I realized that lawyers can help people in a way that no one else can.

I have focused on criminal, juvenile, and family law matters. I have always been interested in areas that affect everyone, whether that person is a sophisticated businessperson or a child who never dreamed she would require legal representation. I have years of experience in these areas and have spent an enormous amount of time in the courtroom fighting for my clients. I have the experience and confidence to help you navigate your way through the legal system in a caring manner so that you achieve the best possible outcome.
