What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
We encourage anyone who is facing legal issues to educate themselves about their legal situation. However, the key is to gain accurate information that can help your case and not damage it. We would encourage anyone who has been arrested or served with legal papers to immediately contact a lawyer.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Yes, particularly in the family law arena, some matters can be accomplished simply by the preparation of uncomplicated legal documents, which may be available online. We are happy to review documents for clients who have tried to do it on their own and will assist them to insure they have gotten it right.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
We would not recommend this process. The key to obtaining good legal representation is to be candid with your attorney and then rely upon the attorney’s training and experience to provide sound legal advice. Ultimately the client makes the decision about whether to settle a case, but this decision should only be made after a lawyer has had ample opportunity to investigate the case and provide advice.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?
Yes, many cases have several different components to them, i.e. criminal cases usually can affect licensing requirements and employment issues. Having a lawyer represent all your legal interest simultaneously, protects the client, we understand that some clients cannot afford this representation and we lay out in advance, and in writing, what are services cover and do not cover.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
Our criminal cases are handled on a flat fee basis with one attorney handling the matter from beginning to end. On family law cases we do delegate work to our administrative staff to help save the client money, however the client still deals with only one attorney the entire time.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
Mediation and other collaborative methods can be successfully used to help a client achieve their goal within the confines of their budget and it is always an option.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
Our firm is active in the Walton and Gwinnett County Bar Associations, The Relay for Life, and the March of Dimes.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
Our firm has extensive trial and courtroom experience, over 20 years of being in the courtroom. We accept cases specifically in the geographic areas where our attorneys were employed as prosecutors. In short, we have extensive knowledge of the local players in the courts and law enforcement communities which helps our attorneys obtain positive results for our clients.
