The judges in the courts I appear in know that I am courteous and will not misrepresent the facts of any case. The District Attorney know I will take a case to trial if necessary, and I have obtained many dismissals and reductions as a result.
The client who has no desire to understand the legal process is very likely going to face the same problem in the future. I prefer a client that will research their options on their own and then bring their questions to me. Also, a client needs to understand that not everything they hear will be accurate information. Just because there is information available on the internet, or because their relative is a prosecutor in San Francisco, does not mean the information they receive is correct and will be useful in their own case.
Yes. This occurs more in civil cases, but I am willing to review a petition for someone who wants to represent them self in court.
Yes. This might occur for a defendant who has a DUI and wants to understand their options, but is not able to pay for full representation.
