We will discuss your possible options, including, but not limited to, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. If you have other non-bankruptcy options available, we will discuss those options as well. I try to explain the law in a way that YOU will understand.

With only one exception, 100% of my Chapter 7 clients have received a Chapter 7 Discharge Order. In Chapter 13 cases, I work to provide my clients with the lowest possible monthly payment allowed by law.

Fees
We provide a Free Consultation, usually about 30 minutes or so. After your consultation, you should have a clear understanding of the options available to you.
I try to make my services affordable, I know that you are having financial difficulties. We will discuss your fees at your FREE CONSULTATION and we will try to work out payment arrangements that can work for you--I want to have you as my client.
In most cases, my attorney's fees to file a Chapter 7 normally range from about $1,000 to $1,500. (Sometimes lower). My attorney's fees to file a Chapter 13 case usually range from about $200.00 to $500.00 to file. The fee can vary, based on the complexity your case, but I will quote you a fee at your Free Consultation, after we have discussed your financial situation.
In almost all cases, there will be no hourly rate billing. In the unusual situation where an hourly rate applies, the rate is normally $175.00 per hour. (Again, such a billing rate is unlikely and we will discuss it in the unusual situation where it would apply).

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
I will do almost all of the work in your case myself. When you have a question concerning your case--I will be the one who provides you with an answer. The legal assistants in my office mostly answer my telephone and perform clerical tasks for me.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
Almost never, because it is usually not necessary. But I will do so, if beneficial to my client.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
Maybe not as often as I should, but at times.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
You will be dealing directly with your lawyer (me) on all issues in your case. If you need to talk to me or see me, I am readily available.
Almost 100% of my practice is devoted to Bankruptcy Law and Debt Relief.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I encourage clients to learn as much as they can about any legal issues facing them. However, they must remember they cannot believe everything they hear or read. Also: Bankruptcy Law is a complicated area of law, and no summary of law they read is going to cover all possible issues in their case.
In addition, some parts of Bankruptcy Law can vary from state to state. Good advice for a Kansas client may instead cause problems for a Missouri resident (and vice versa).

I established THE BANKRUTPCY LAW CENTER in October 1999. Since that time, I have shared offices with two lawyers I went to law school with (Mayer & Rosenberg).
I am a former legal assistant to the Chapter 13 Trustee (Eastern District of Missouri, 1991 To 1993) and am a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law (1996). I have practiced almost exclusively in the field of bankruptcy law and debt relief since 1997.
