Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

I do almost all cases at a flat fee rate. A typical retainer on a felony is about $5,000, on a DUI or DV, it is 50% of the fee agreed on (my rates start at $2,500 for a first DUI, which includes the DMV hearing). Nolo clients can expect a 10% discount.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Criminal law is the most colorful field in the law. I've met retired Russian gangsters, alcoholic painters, globe-trotting prostitutes--no wonder so many criminal lawyers make good writers.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Only if a case gets to the sentencing stage can any document prepared by a client have any real relevance.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients should educate themselves about who the best lawyers are and then hire one and let that lawyer do his job. Criminal law is not brain surgery, but it takes years in the business to know how the system really works.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Never.

Greg Rawlings

I worked for eight years in private practice, doing everything from traffic cases to federal securities fraud trials, before joining the Denver City Attorney's Office, where I worked as a prosecutor for over five years. Then I joined Springer & Steinberg, one of the leading litigation firms in the United States, where I defended cases ranging from DUIs to murder. We also represented quite a few members of the Denver Broncos. After a year at the DUI firm of Jansen & Associates, I established my own firm: Greg D. Rawlings, P.C.
Growing up in the Appalachian Rust Belt, I saw how hard it was for many of my fellow Americans to get by, much less get ahead. Overcoming a system where very few of my classmates went on to higher education (much less law school) gave me a level of determination that many professionals from ritzier climes simply cannot muster up.
My strength is that everyone in Colorado knows that I will take a case to trial. My style is old school professionalism.
Personal interests:
Being with my brilliant teenage daughter, hiking, tennis, skiing, reading, and writing my columns.
