Richard Gearhart, Esq., the founder of Gearhart Law, has been practicing patent law for nearly 25 years. Seven years ago, he decided he wanted to use his extensive knowledge of the patent system to help inventors and entrepreneurs start their own small businesses. He has a broad depth and range of experience in all areas of patent law. He started his career in a small private patent law firm in Chicago. He subsequently joined Dow Corning Corporation in Michigan, and furthered his corporate career as the head of the US Area Patent and Trademark department at Novartis Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey. Richard left Novartis in 2006 to start his own patent law firm, where he could focus on helping others start their own small businesses. Gearhart Law serves startups, individual entrepreneurs, small businesses, and some corporate clients.
The IP team at Gearhart Law is composed of Richard Gearhart, Esq., the firm's founder; Susanne Somersalo, Esq., Ph.D., biology; Harry Du, Esq., Ph.D., neuroscience; Roy Rosser, Ph.D., physics (patent agent); and Elizabeth Gearhart, Ph.D., chemistry (patent agent).
The entire team speaks excellent English; Susanne also speaks Finnish, German, and Swedish, while Harry speaks Chinese. The knowledge of foreign languages helps when filing patents globally where we enlist the help of foreign patent agents.
