Mr. Crowe, Ms. Shanahan and that Mr. Derse have all practiced Social Security law since the beginning of their careers as attorneys. This practice has special rewards for a lawyer. It can be stressful. Our clients are all sick or injured and need income. The government bureaucracy can be frustrating. However, if we help someone win their case, we have done an individual and their family a great deal of good, and we have not hurt anyone else in the process. Not many lawyers get to say that.
Social Security disability is all we do. It's all we've ever done. We know the law. We know the system. We appear before the local Social Security judges regularly. Not many law firms can say that.
We only serve people in metropolitan St. Louis, eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. You won't be dealing with an out-of-town firm where you may not know who is responsible for your case. We invite new clients to come meet us. Our clients know who is responsible to them from the day a file is opened to the day it is closed.
Our entire practice is Social Security disability. We are not a general firm that handles some disability cases.
We are lawyers, licensed to represent people at every level of appeal including federal court. Non-lawyers can represent people on these cases but they cannot practice in the courts and are not bound by the strict rules of ethics that govern attorneys' conduct.
* Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers. Any past disbarments and suspensions (with possible exceptions for minor violations or nonpayment of dues, in our discretion) will be indicated accordingly in the badge. Member attorneys are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
