Working with new and young families is our passion. Parents are never prouder, and never smile bigger than when they are talking about their children. Their children are the center of their universe, and parents will do everything in their power to give their children the best life they can. We focus on educating parents about what they can do now to protect their children and give them the best life possible no matter what the future holds.

Estate planning is one of the most overlooked legal aspects of a personâs life. Unfortunately, it seems that new and young families are overlooked by the legal community when it comes to establishing an estate plan. We think this is irresponsible. As young or new parents you generally do not need a robust estate plan. What you need is a solid foundation of basic documents coupled with a far sighted outlook into your future life. With this approach you can protect your family now and make protecting them easier and less costly in the future. We hope you will take the time to sit down with us and learn how simple and cost effective it is to get started with your first estate plan.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

As I watched my friends and family begin to get married and start having kids, I realized how rare it was for new parents to have estate plans in place. Knowing how much they cared about their children, I felt that they simply werenât aware of how important it was that they have protection in place for their families.

While not all families need highly complex estate plans, there is a solid foundation of legal documents that make sure they are properly protected from any unforeseen events. Going through the process of creating an estate plan can be challenging and involves making many important decisions. As an attorney who regularly works with clients as they go through that process, I can provide advice and direction to help make the process as easy as possible.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage it, and in fact do it myself when it comes to areas outside of the law. However, I do strongly recommend speaking with an attorney after the fact to make sure you are interpreting correctly and not overlooking key elements.

I built a solid background for estate planning and business planning by working with clients to plan and draft documents ranging from complex Trusts, to Wills, to Powers of Attorney. Through all of the contacts made throughout the Young Professionals community along with all of my family and friends who are having children, I have had the good fortune of working with and educating many families about the importance of completing their estate planning, and what needs to be done to protect their children.

I was born and raised in Lee's Summit, MO, and has a passion for helping grow and improve the community around him through various organizations including the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce, as a board member of Blue Monday, and also being appointed by the mayor to the LS 360 Implementation Committee for the city of Lee's Summit. I have been studying and practicing estate planning since 2003, and have been running my own law firm since 2006.

I provide a relaxed but educational approach to all of the work I do.

Personal interests:

I try to enjoy an active lifestyle involving regular exercise, and I love spending time with my family.
