Firm Focus
I focus on two areas of law. I practice family law, helping my clients obtain the best possible legal outcome for their particular family legal crisis. I also practice business law for small businesses, helping entrepreneurs form businesses and then foster their growth through the years.
Firm History
This firm opened its doors on December 1, 2006.
Activities and Awards
Pro bono work for King County Bar Association's Legal Clinic, pro bono work for University of Washington's Immigrant Families' Advocacy Program, participant in Washington State Bar Association's Moderate Means Program
Example Cases
I recently defended a small employer in litigation regarding non-compete agreements and alleged violations of the Uniform Trade Secrets Act. I also recently helped a client to overturn an unfair child support award that had been illegally obtained.
On the transactional side, a client that I assisted to form a company three years ago has recently turned to me to create their franchise offering documents.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
A client who understands the legal issues is generally easier to effectively represent, and is less likely to create additional problems for him or herself. There are times when even the most astute client should turn to an attorney for help, but legal information for clients is never a bad thing.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Yes.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
Yes, in family law matters.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?
Yes.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
Thanks to the tools of technology, I am a true solo; I do not have a paralegal or secretary. However, when I do work that would normally be done by a paralegal or a secretary, I charge a lower, appropriate rate.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
Whenever it appears that a case might be resolved with one of these tools, I give it a try. I also use them whenever required under Washington law, of course.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
Yes, I provide pro bono work as described above, and also make myself available as a speaker, without charge, whenever invited.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
I have been a small business owner for many years prior to becoming an attorney, and I have been involved in family law matters personally. I never forget what it is like to face a threatening legal problem.

Yes, generally about 30 minutes, but longer if necessary for me to adequately understand the case, and for me to properly answer my client’s questions about my representation.

My retainer is based on anticipated work involved in handling the case. Simple cases call for small retainers while involved cases call for larger ones. I will quote the retainer at the end of the initial consultation. I also accept credit cards.
Nolo's Licensing Check
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
