Firm Focus and History
After gaining a wealth of experience in family law, I recently decided to follow my dream of starting my own law firm. In 2009, I opened Troy Legal, P.A. which serves all of South Florida. It maintains offices in Boca Raton and Coral Gables.
Troy Legal, P.A. focuses on representing individuals with issues related to marital and family law. This may include divorce, custody, domestic violence, marital agreements, cohabitation agreements, relocation cases and post divorce issues with child support alimony or distribution of property.
Previous Employment Summary
While in law school and immediately thereafter I worked for the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office as well as the Miami Dade Public Defender's Office. After law school I was employed by one of the top insurance defense firms in the state of Florida where I developed my litigation skills. Always having a passion for family law, I left that position to work in Miami for an attorney consistently voted as one of the top family law attorneys in the country. I was subsequently employed for almost three years by Rutherford Mulhall, P.A., a mid-sized law firm in Palm Beach County. I continued to specialize in marital and family law while being mentored by one of the top attorneys in the state of Florida. Because of the experience and training I gained over the past several years, in 2009, I elected to follow my dream and start my own law practice.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I believe it is important for clients to educate themselves, especially in family law matters. Clients should understand what their rights are before talking to an attorney in order to ensure that the advice they are receiving is proper and that the attorney is trustworthy.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients in order to ensure that everything is done correctly the first time around.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
In this economy, I understand that sometimes it is necessary for an individual to represent themselves due to the high costs of litigation. If it becomes necessary to represent oneself, I am always willing to assist the client with whatever they need in order to ensure that the case is dealt with properly the first time around.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
Whereas many lawyers may shy away from the high conflict family law cases, I have always maintained a deep passion for the subject, stemming from both my professional and personal experiences. I believe that as family lawyers, we have the unique ability and duty to assist families through difficult and often traumatic times in their lives.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
My background from working at the State Attorney's Office to my experiences with several high profile family law attorneys in South Florida has helped me become a better lawyer. I have worked on several high profile and complex family matters throughout my career. In addition, my personal experiences in family law have provided me the compassion and understanding needed to be a quality family law attorney.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
This type of practice also brings with it the special privilege of being able to bring justice to those in need. My passion and desire to help others is why I have dedicated the majority of my practice to family law.
What do you like best about your career?
I enjoy interacting with and helping people in need of assistance during difficult times in their lives.
Tell us about your law firm:
I am a solo practitioner so all clients will deal directly with me, unlike large law firms where other attorneys, secretaries and paralegals will be working on the client's case and billing the client.
What are your strengths and style?
In order to properly resolve most family cases, a lawyer must have substantial experience in marital and family law, along with a great deal of compassion and understanding of the process and for the individuals involved. I strongly believe that attorneys should do their best to avoid creating further conflict in what is already a difficult time for all of those individuals involved in each case. Lawyers have a duty to always do what is in the best interests of you and your loved ones.
Through tireless negotiations and hard work, I will diligently try to resolve every issue in the most ethical and amicable way possible. Although having a judge resolve your case is rarely in your families' best interest, I recognize that sometimes a settlement is not possible. If I am unable to resolve your issues outside of the courthouse, my past litigation experience allows me to thoroughly and aggressively advocate for you in court to help provide the justice you are entitled to.
Personal Interests:
I am runner having completed the Boston and Miami Marathons. I am an animal lover and a sports fan.
