What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
It is important for clients to stay abreast of important legal issues, but the bottom line is that it is the job of the attorney to educate the clients on any legal issues that may affect them. I believe that attorneys owe a duty to existing clients to inform the client of any change in an area of law that could have an impact on the client's interests, even if the client is not involved in an active case.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I am willing to review any document that a client prepares that may in any way affect the client's legal position. Additionally, I believe that it is important to proactively advise clients as to what types of documents it may be necessary to procure in order to effectively prosecute or defend their case.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I believe that a person is almost invariably in a better position when represented by an attorney than when proceeding alone, especially if the attorney is well-informed and well-prepared. However, should any existing clients wish to represent themselves on a matter, I would absolutely be willing to advise them and help them prepare their case so as to best protect their legal interests.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
Growing up, I wanted to be a major league baseball player. Then I read "To Kill a Mockingbird" in fifth grade, and decided that I would rather pursue a profession that gave me the power to help people in difficult circumstances. Practicing personal injury law and criminal defense has given me the opportunity to do that.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I love when people question my desire to do what I do. I was recently asked how I could practice personal injury law and criminal defense "with a clean conscience." I told my inquisitor that I see myself as the last line of defense for people in difficult circumstances. People don't always have the ability to help themselves, and, through my practice, I have the power to lift my clients up out of the mire that so often becomes their lives.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
I love the law, and the strategy and analysis that lie therein, but the main reason that I chose my specific areas of practice was to give a voice to people that that often struggle to be heard.
What do you like best about your career?
The look of gratification and relief on a client's face after a favorable result.
Tell us about your law firm:
David Boone and Burk Beale have assembled a talented team of attorneys and paralegals with diverse areas of practice and a wealth of knowledge and experience. What sets Boone Beale attorneys apart from many other lawyers is the fact that the attorneys at Boone Beale truly love what they do.
What are your strengths and style?
My greatest strength lies in my preparation. My motto is to leave no rock unturned, and that means that I will chase down every lead, no matter how tenuous, if I believe that there is a possibility that it will affect my client's case.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees
We bill on a contingency fee for 90% of plaintiff cases, and a flat rate for criminal, traffic, and DUI cases.
Hourly Rates
Not applicable.
Free Initial Consultation?
We offer free initial consultations for as long as it takes to fully understand the facts and evaluate the complexities of the case.
Typical Retainer
In plaintiff cases on a contingency fee, I don't require a retainer. In criminal cases, I require one half of the fee up front to retain my services on the case. This can be accomplished through any method that works best for our clients (i.e., credit cards, checks, and cash). The remaining balance will typically be due about a month later.
Nolo's Licensing Check
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
