Firm Overview

My practice is almost exclusively criminal defense in the Chicago area, its suburbs, and at times other jurisdictions. Cases include federal and state felonies and misdemeanors, ranging from white collar (fraud, theft, and financial crimes investigations such as mortgage fraud) to violent crimes, to drug and narcotics possession and distribution. We also handle a wide variety of other cases, including gambling, solicitation, conspiracy, credit card, shoplifting, weapons, assault and battery, embezzlement, and identity theft cases, and expunge criminal records when people are eligible.

The firm was established in 1988 in Chicago, and has been handling criminal cases of all types for over 20 years.

Example cases

I have tried over 75 jury trials in my career, and have obtained acquittals in trials of multiple-defendant federal drug conspiracy cases, insurance fraud, murder, and other cases. I have handled high-profile criminal trials of all types in state and federal courts.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

The most important area of law is the one where a person's liberty is at stake, and often, where a person's career is also at stake. The consequences of a criminal case can be prison in the worst cases. In other cases, protecting someone from having a criminal record can be the most vital issue for a client.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

When one is charged with or being investigated for a crime, it is vital for both the lawyer and the client to understand everything about the facts of the case, the witnesses, and the law governing the case. To that end, the lawyer and the client must work together in every stage to educate each other to provide the very best defense for the client.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Clients are often very helpful in explaining events in a criminal case to the attorney, and discussions with the client and reviewing documents prepared by the client can be very helpful in the defense of the case.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

It is very dangerous for someone to represent himself in a criminal case. At the very least, two heads are better than one, and a criminal defendant needs an attorney who understands the charges, the possible penalties, all possible defenses, and the rules of evidence to best represent the client.

I have seen injustices that result from overzealous law enforcement officers. Innocent people have been convicted and imprisoned. Good people who commit a small mistake are often punished too severely. These events provide motivation for a criminal defense lawyer.
