Firm Focus and History
The Law Firm of Richard Bloch, P.C. was established in November, 2004. I have spent my entire career from 1986 to present practicing criminal law. I spent twenty years as a District Attorney in Arapahoe County trying thousands of criminal cases, most of which were serious felonies. I now provide the most competent, thorough, and effective representation in the State of Colorado to all people accused of crimes.
Previous Employment Summary
I spent 20 years as a District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District (Arapahoe County, Douglas County, Albert County, and Lincoln County). I was the Chief Deputy for most of those years, specializing in habitual criminal and homicide cases.
Activities and Awards
I do State appointments, and I have lectured on habitual criminal law.
What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I disapprove of clients educating themselves on legal issues. It's a recipe for disaster -- the law is incredibly complicated.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I am hesitant to review documents, but will do what I can for my clients.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I am not willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I became a lawyer because it provided me with the ability to serve a valuable function in society, to help people who need help, to provide a good living for myself, and to satisfy a workaholic nature.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I have been a cab driver in New York, a restaurant manager, and a butcher. I am not limited to simply an academic lifestyle. This allows me to understand why people do what they do and how the real world works.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
Criminal law is the only area that I have practiced in.
What do you like best about your career?
The fact that I can truly help people who need my help and know that no one else is more qualified to provide that help.
Tell us about your law firm:
I am a solo practitioner. We have three paralegals and office share with two other law firms.
What are your strengths and style?
My strengths are honesty, the respect that I have from the state's judges and district attorneys, an ability to accurately analyze a case to determine most probably outcome, the ability to give my clients absolutely accurate advice as to how to proceed, and the ability to get the best results from either plea bargaining or, if necessary, from trial.
