Preferred New Clients

I prefer to handle all types of bankruptcy cases (Chapters 7 and 13) especially in cases where debt collectors have been harassing consumers. It is particularly rewarding when the weight of financial debt is lifted from my clients and they finally enjoy the fresh start they deserve.

Business Law

Preferred New Clients

I enjoy working with start-up businesses and with existing businesses which are interested in seeking legal advice designed to prevent legal disputes from occurring. A properly drafted employment agreement and/or shareholder buy/sell agreement implemented in the beginning of the business relationship can save tens of thousands of dollars in litigation costs when the business relationship terminates. Of course if it is already too late and litigation becomes necessary this firm will provide aggressive representation throughout the course of the lawsuit.

Continuing Education

In order for an attorney to provide true value to his clients he must stay up to date with an ever changing legal landscape. I consistently exceed the required number of continuing education hours and in addition I tend to carry over from one year to the next the maximum carry over amount allowed.

Papers and Publications

I have set up a blog and endeavor to continually add valuable content to the blog postings.

Example Cases

• Family of four was falling behind on mortgage payments and wished to save the family home. Drafted a workable Chapter 13 plan which enabled the client to "catch up" on the missed payments as part of the bankruptcy plan payments.

• Single mother recently lost her job and was being harassed by debt collectors because, to her, paying for baby formula was a higher priority than staying current on a credit card that was charging her 30% interest. Her Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing stopped the constant telephone calls and gave her a fresh start down the road to financial health.

• During the height of the Arizona housing bubble, an elderly couple was convinced by a slick mortgage broker to take out a home equity loan. The husband became ill and could no longer work. The Social Security check was not enough to pay the mortgage and the monthly living expenses, in addition to the credit card debt. Not knowing what else to do, they contacted our office to discuss their options, including a bankruptcy filing.

• Servicemen stationed at Luke Airforce wished to begin a business venture together. The firm established the LLC on their behalf, ensuring that all of the documents were properly drafted and filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission. A detailed Buy/Sell Agreement was prepared to cover the various contingencies of a member dying, wishing to withdraw from the LLC or if the majority of the members seek to buy out one of the members.

• An existing business had grown and sought to take on an employee. An employment agreement was prepared which included non-disclosure and non-compete provisions. These provisions were included to address the business owner's concern that he was hiring and training his future direct competitor. Given that the business was succeeding, it was also time to draft the business owner's Will, or possibly a Trust.

Firm Focus and History

The majority of the firm's practice focuses on bankruptcy, contract drafting, business law including business formation, family law, real property, and wills and trusts. I also have experience handling a wide variety of civil litigation matters. I intend to service virtually all of my client's legal needs. As I assist you with your business issues, we should be establishing your estate planning requirements. If you hit a financial bump in the road which leads to either divorce or bankruptcy we can help you with either or both of those areas as well.

After having been a licensed attorney for over 20 years I established this firm in 2008 in order to provide my clients, who don't know where else to turn, the professional, cost-effective legal representation that they deserve. Servicing my clients' specific legal needs, with individualized attention, is the touchstone of the firm's existence.

Previous Employment Summary

I have worked with some of Arizona's premier law-firms. I have now formed this Arizona law firm, one which is dedicated to providing the quality of work provided by the larger firms while doing so with individualized attention and lower costs.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An informed client is an absolute necessity, especially in the bankruptcy and business law areas. In each of these areas of the law the answer to the "how should I handle this" question will have a profound effect on the client's life going forward. Experienced counsel will significantly aid in the decision process, but in the end the client will live with the ramifications of how these issues are handled and the more information the client has before they make their decision the better the outcome will be for the client going forward.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Client input is always valued and appreciated. The more the client is part of the process the more likely it is that a successful outcome will be reached. Once the firm is retained, client input is strongly encouraged.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

It is our belief that this firm's services areas of the law that are not "do it yourself" areas of the law. The potential for mistakes are numerous in the areas of law that we service and the ramifications of a mistake could be catastrophic and long lasting. We highly encourage those facing Court proceedings to retain an experienced attorney.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I have always been proud of our great American democracy and believe that our legal system is the guardian of our rights as citizens. It is with pride that I vigorously protect our clients' rights and it is with great satisfaction that I witness the successful conclusion of each case.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have been licensed to practice law for nearly a quarter of a century. In addition to being an attorney I have been a financial advisor for major Wall Street brokerage firms and I have taught accounting and paralegal studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey. I have also experienced various blue collar positions having been a union member with the Amalgamated Workers Union when I worked for grocery food stores. I have done roofing, pumped gas, managed a luncheonette, delivered newspapers, and have even been a golf caddy. I know that my vast work experience allows me to relate to virtually all of my clients, not just based on their legal issues, but also on their life experiences.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Since the goal of this law firm is to improve the lives of our clients and their families, the areas of bankruptcy, business law and estate planning are the three main areas of the law where an attorney knows that he or she is making a difference. Bankruptcy clients come to the firm facing overwhelming debt – often it's not even their fault. Whether it's because of the Arizona economy, medical bills, divorce, or loss of income, all of our clients deserve help and a fresh financial start. Estate planning and business clients typically are seeking advice before a problem arises, and it is rewarding to know that we have planned ahead so that loved ones receive what they are legally entitled to and that businesses are structured properly so that the business owner may be fully protected.

What do you like best about your career?

Hearing those three little words - "Thank you, Ray" from my clients. The majority of my bankruptcy clients are at wits end when we first meet. They are stressed out from all of the harassment and not knowing when their lives will turn around. It is a great feeling at the end of the bankruptcy process to see my clients actually smile, knowing that they are getting a second chance at financial health.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so you will always have direct contact with your attorney. Marlene is my wonderful assistant who takes care of the office administration, freeing me up to dedicate all of my working efforts on client matters.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength is my support staff which makes the business part of the law office run smoothly so that I may use time listening to my clients and learning as much about them as I can in order to address all of their legal needs.

Personal Interests:

1) My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2) My family - my wife, daughter, stepchildren and dog.
3) My love of country and the law.
4) Family time hiking, playing and watching sports and watching good films (which unfortunately seem to be few and far between lately).
