Continuing Education

I believe that to be a good attorney I need to be informed on all topics of law. For that reason, I try to take as many different and varied types of legal education classes as possible. However, I never pass up a new presentation on my practice areas.

Example Cases

I recently revised and executed a will for a former high school teacher and his wife. Although a fairly routine matter, it is a perfect example of why I came home to practice law. I was able to help people in my community quickly and affordably. But more than that, I was able to play a part in the lives of people I care about.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The easiest way for me to help a new client is to fully understand their situation. I've found that the clients who have taken the time to learn about the legal issues involved are those who can help me understand what I need to know quickly and easily. In these cases, I play a minor role as an advisor, or I may take on a full representation. But in either case, the relationship is much more rewarding for both of us when the clients are informed and educated about their situation.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients. I charge my normal hourly rate for the time spent reviewing the document and the time spent discussing it with the client.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to answer questions submitted in writing and discuss those answers at my hourly rate.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

During high school, I interned for a local attorney who allowed me to shadow him and learn what it was really like to be an attorney. What I saw was someone intimately involved in his community and able to help people in a unique and important way. I knew that this was what I wanted to do with my life.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have an insatiable curiosity. I read constantly and always want to learn more. This gives me a broad background of knowledge to draw from when serving my clients. I am sometimes presented with questions I don't know the answer to, but that never happens with the same question twice.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

An older attorney once told me that the best bankruptcy attorneys are those who truly believe in the process. I practice bankruptcy because I honestly believe that it is a necessary and effective way of helping people out of bad situations. The opportunity to help them make a fresh start is an added bonus.

What do you like best about your career?

Clients are the best part about my job. Getting to talk with them and watching as the weight of their legal troubles is lifted is a unique experience I am privileged to have on a regular basis.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner and handle all aspects of the practice myself. By answering the phones myself, clients are able to easily speak directly with me when necessary. This sometimes means that calls go to voicemail when I am occupied with another client, but I find that most people enjoy the trade-off.

What are your strengths and style?

I have an acute ability to remain focused on the ultimate objectives in a case. I do my best to remind my clients that while a choice may feel good in the moment, it does more harm than good to our long term goals. By never forgetting what my client's ultimate objective is, I find that I am able to get better results more quickly.

Personal Interests:

I am an avid tennis player, a hobbyist computer programmer, and I love to read.
