Firm Overview

My firm is a general practice firm that concentrates primarily on the areas of criminal defense and immigration law. Other areas of practice at BOS Legal include Estate Planning, Divorce and Family Law, and Real Estate practice.

I established BOS Legal in 2009. Its mission is to bring a more personable and individualized approach to the practice of law such that both the attorney and the client have a strong personal yet professional relationship built on mutual respect and trust. I believe that this kind of relationship guarantees not only the expected result for both client and attorney at the end of the representation, but also ensures that a successful and thriving practice is established by any attorney who practices from this client-oriented perspective.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Criminal Law: Simply because I know that there are a lot of people sitting in jail or even on death row for crimes they did not commit. I have encountered some of these groups of people in my practice almost on a regular basis and would use every ammunition within my legal arsenal to secure an acquittal for them

Immigration Law: I am a first generation immigrant who has navigated the sometimes arduous and bureaucratic process of immigration law. Therefore, I want to make the process as streamlined and smooth sailing as possible for potential immigrants as well as others on their path to acquiring U.S. citizenship.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think that clients should educate themselves on legal matters so as to have at least a minimum understanding of the legal issue that pertains to them. I have realized that an informed client is in a far better position to ask the necessary question when they have a basic understanding of the issue and are also more likely to understand explanations preferred by the attorney. This will in turn foster a better attorney/client relationship.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am willing to review documents prepared by clients, but have seen that after most reviews the clients end up asking me to prepare the documents for them.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am not a fan of clients representing themselves in court, especially on the two areas of criminal and immigration law. Usually, the stakes are very high and the consequences usually dire. I will coach a client who wants to still represent themselves after advising them of the potential outcome of being self-represented in both the areas of criminal and immigration areas of law.

Ogor Winnie Okoye

I already acquired an LLB in law from the University of Nigeria in 1998 prior to going back for a Juris Doctorate degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA. I have worked in various capacities including as a recruiter/human resource manager for Labor Mass USA, Inc. while I attended Law school. On completing law school, I worked briefly for a civil litigation firm in Salem, MA which specialized in the area of insurance subrogation law. In 2005, I established a solo practice: Law Office of Ogor Winnie Okoye. One year later, I became a member of the Middlesex defense attorneys, representing indigent criminal defendants at the district court level within the Middlesex County of Massachusetts. In 2008, I joined the panel of the Suffolk Lawyers for Justice and I am currently a member of both panels, working to ensure that the rights of indigent criminal defendants within Massachusetts are protected.

I was the president of my debating society in high school and college. I have always been described by family, friends, and peers alike as being passionate and tenacious. I know that I can fight for anything that I fervently believe in irrespective of the odds. I bring this fire and passion in my daily practice of law and have had a constant cycle of referrals in my practice from past clients. I am extremely optimistic irrespective of the odds, and that has proved very healthy for my practice. I am usually described as being very patient and I attribute that to the experience of my daily home life where I am a mom to four kids who can sometimes test my patience, making work-related pressure seem like a lot of fun.

I am very passionate and tenacious. I believe I have a moral obligation to treat everyone that I encounter with respect and civility - exactly the same way I desire to be treated. I am hopelessly optimistic! I believe that every success in life comes from a place of unrelenting hard work. I have used every one of these beliefs on a daily basis in my practice and it has thus far, created an atmosphere of trust and goodwill between me and my clients.

Personal interests:

I love hanging out with my four little children and my husband, who truly thinks the world of me! I am a vocalist who writes and records my own songs when I have some real downtime. I also love writing short stories.
