Example Cases

Joyce, an employee of a local Clark County hospital, was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision. The insurance company for the at fault driver did not believe that Joyce's injuries were significant. It was necessary to file a lawsuit and go through a hearing. Joyce prevailed. Joyce said, "I liked being able to speak directly to him whenever I needed to. He kept me informed and 'in the loop' throughout the proceedings of my case. I was allowed to make informed decisions, but Loren was there when I needed his expertise. Loren worked with me at my comfort level and respected my opinions. Loren's advice proved to be absolutely correct."

Gary, a local Vancouver insurance agent, was involved in a motor vehicle collision. Gary felt that the other insurance company was not treating him fairly. Gary's claim was settled out of court. Gary said, "Loren was the only law professional who was well-versed in the particulars of my case. Loren was direct with his approach and got results. No B.S."

Susan was involved in a significant motor vehicle collision and as a result was permanently disabled. Susan recovered 100% of the available insurance coverage. Susan said, "After my accident, I was not interested in retaining a lawyer, but I was encouraged by my doctor to at least meet with a lawyer. Loren was absolutely wonderful, providing me guidance and support through the entire process. Loren does what is best for the client, not what is best for him."

Gary, a retired business owner, was involved in a motor vehicle collision and incurred tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses. Gary was worried that he would have to use his retirement savings to pay the medical expenses. In addition to a settlement for his pain and suffering, all of Gary's medical expenses were paid by the insurance companies. Gary said, "Loren far exceeded my expectations for the outcome of my case. I would recommend him to others. I was very happy with the results of my case."

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The internet has broadened a client's opportunity to educate themselves on legal issues they are facing. This is generally a good thing, as better educated clients make better decisions. However, due to the complexity of personal injury law and insurance law, there is no substitute for competent legal representation.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

The nature of personal injury law is such that reviewing documents prepared by clients is generally not an option. In family law, bankruptcy, and contract law there are many "standard forms" which a client can obtain and "fill in the blanks." In these types of legal issues, it is appropriate for a lawyer to review documents prepared by a client. Personal injury law does not use "standard forms" and therefore does not lend itself to document review.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am happy to give general advice on how to resolve simple matters that do not need the assistance of legal counsel. However, it is generally not advisable for clients to represent themselves in more complex legal matters and in those situations I will decline to coach people who choose to represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to work with and help people suffering from personal injuries. I was looking for a career where I could work with people and help them through difficult times in their life. I did not want to be stuck behind a desk, just pushing papers around.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have close family members who have suffered injuries which were serious enough that they had to change professions and deal with pain and limitations on a daily basis. This experience allows me to empathize with my clients and their experiences following an injury.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose to practice in the field of personal injury as it allows me the opportunity to work with and help people. I did not want to and I do not represent insurance companies, corporations or businesses.

What do you like best about your career?

It provides me with the opportunity to help people who are going through a stressful event in their life.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner with a wonderful, attentive staff. My staff has been with me for years and is an important part of my team approach to the representation of injured people.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength is my easygoing nature when interacting with clients combined with a tenacity to get the client every penny they deserve due to personal injury when interacting with insurance companies. I have a smile ready for all who enters my office, but don't let that fool you into thinking I'm a pushover. I am ready and willing to fight the good fight for my clients.

Personal Interests:

Outside of the office I enjoy the outdoor activities that living in the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I enjoy spending time with my family which includes my wife and four children. I am an avid motorcyclist and enjoy touring throughout the Western United States, Canada and Alaska.
