Continuing Education

I help run the Bankruptcy law clinic at JFK law school in Pleasant Hill. I attend continuing legal education seminar on Bankruptcy and Real Estate law. I am a section member of both Real Estate section and Bankruptcy section of Contra Costa Bar. I am also Bankruptcy section member of the San Francisco Bar.

Example Cases

I had a Chapter 7 client in San Jose that tried to get a loan modification prepetition and could not because his debt was too high. We filed bankruptcy and in the middle of bankruptcy I was able to modify his loan. I had an Oakland case where the loan was modified and there was potential adversary that was avoided.

Firm Focus and History

Addressing and helping people in financial hardships. I also represent clients in all types of real estate matters.

I started my solo firm in Illinois in September 1991. I have had the Libertyville Office since then. In 2000 (late), we relocated to Colorado for my husband's job. I practiced in Colorado in 2001 to 2004. Again, my husband's job relocated us to the Bay Area in August of 2004. I started my firm in December of 2005.

I like clients educating themselves. I want my clients making informed decisions about their case.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I really wanted to help people. The legal process can be scary and confusing. I believe in the justice and the legal system.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I think being a parent makes me a better lawyer. I also think volunteering and giving back to the community is important. Doing activities and being involved helps keep me balanced.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I found bankruptcy while clerking when a client needed to do Chapter 7. I was told to figure it out. I have been practicing bankruptcy law ever since.

What do you like best about your career?

I like meeting and helping clients. I like that I never have the same work day.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. I like taking in my own bankruptcy cases so I can catch issues before they occur. I do have an assistant who spends most of her time on loan modifications.

What are your strengths and style?

I am very personable, so I am easy to talk to. We provide personal care to each client.

Personal Interests:

Wine tasting, volunteering with my children's cheerleading and activities. Movies, reading, singing and spending time with family and friends.

I charge $2,500 plus costs for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I charge $4,800 plus costs for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Chapter 11s are done hourly at an reduced rate of $250 per hour.
