We are a law firm that is committed to representing individuals filing chapter 7 & 13 bankruptcies. This office does not handle business bankruptcies or present creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. Our firm also handles personal injuries; family law; and criminal, federal, state, and civil litigation.

The firm was established in January 2003 and has grown in size and clientele ever since. Recently the firm added an associate attorney, David P. Skillman in January 2008.

Bottner & Skillman, Attorneys at Law is a debt relief agency with experienced attorneys helping people like you seek relief and protection under the bankruptcy code.

The initial bankruptcy consultation with our office is free. The free consultation with the attorney will allow you to discuss debt relief under the United States Bankruptcy Code, how Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies work, the debts that can be discharged through bankruptcy, the property that that you will be entitled to keep after the bankruptcy (i.e. home, vehicle, home furnishings, etc.), the debts that you will need to continue paying, the general process of bankruptcy, including pre-filing requirements, and how bankruptcy generally will affect you.

Please also note that a bankruptcy case evaluation will be required prior to filing for bankruptcy protection. A case evaluation will involve going through all of the details of your finances with you. We will collect information from you regarding your income, assets and debts in order to determine which bankruptcy chapter would be more beneficial to you. The case evaluation provides much more specific information regarding your personal options and how bankruptcy will help you personally. There is a $200.00 charge for a case evaluation. However, this fee will be credited towards the attorney fee in the event that the bankruptcy is filed within the same month as the evaluation.

David P. Skillman

David P. Skillman was born and raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Mr. Skillman graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School and in 1986 moved to West Virginia. A 2000 Graduate of Shepard University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Cum Laude. After graduating, Mr. Skillman moved to the Morgantown area where he attended West Virginia University School of Law and graduated with his J.D. in 2004. Mr. Skillman then began working as a law clerk for the 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Gray Silver, III in Berkeley County, from 2004 â 2007. Towards the end of 2007 Mr. Skillman had the opportunity to work with the Bureau of Child Support Enforcement, then at the first part of 2008 joined the Law Office of Kirk H. Bottner, PLLC where he has been growing his clientele ranging from Bankruptcy, Personal Injury, Civil Litigation and a variety of Domestic matters.
