What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I educate clients on legal issues and encourage those who cannot afford an attorney to consult with a lawyer as a coach or to review documents.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I am happy to review documents prepared by clients and Alaska law encourages attorneys to do so.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I encourage this and have served as a coach.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I was a forensic mental health counselor and spent a great deal of time in court. I noticed that the legal system was not working very well for people with family and mental health issues. I obtained a law degree with the intent to improve the system.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
My education and work as a mental health counselor and a mediator make me a better lawyer.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
I was appointed as a judicial officer and benefited from years of experience in my areas of practice. I also enjoy litigation.
What do you like best about your career?
The rewarding contact with my clients.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
