Firm Focus and History
I established my firm in 1993, after having gained over 12 years of experience litigating on behalf of catastrophically injured clients at two major Philadelphia law firms. Stephen Ulan joined my firm soon after it was established, and Dr. Gerald Kaplan, a general surgeon who also has a law degree, became of counsel to the firm. Together we carefully evaluate, work up and litigate cases on behalf of our clients. While providing aggressive representation, we provide compassion and care to our clients along the way. We provide high-quality representation from AV-rated lawyers, with personalized attention in a small firm atmosphere.
We are a high quality firm that represents catastrophically injured individuals in their medical malpractice and personal injury cases. We have successfully represented
clients in birth injury cases, obstetrical negligence cases, delay in diagnosis cases, cases of surgical error, medication overdose, misread x-rays, and all aspects of hospital, doctor, and nursing negligence, achieving significant results. We have been very successful in handling serious injury cases for our clients.
Previous Employment Summary
I started my career as a public interest lawyer handling civil rights act cases, and then switched to the private sector where I worked and became a partner at the catastrophic injury firm of Bernstein, Bernstein, & Harrison, where I litigated medical malpractice, product liability, auto accident, and slip and fall cases. I then became a partner with the law firm of Kolsby Gordon concentrating on medical malpractice cases.
Activities and Awards
AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell since 1990, Judge Pro Tem for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.
What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I encourage clients to learn as much as they can about the legal process.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
In personal injury litigation, there is little need for clients to prepare legal documents. However, clients are encouraged to keep diaries of their medical treatment and pain levels.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
Unfortunately, this is not something which is advised in a serious injury case.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I have always wanted to fight for the rights of the average person. I am able to do this through my representation of seriously injured individuals.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
My experience representing mothers with handicapped children and people who have themselves suffered life-altering injuries has given me the understanding and compassion necessary to effectively fight for my clients' interests.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
By representing seriously injured individuals who are the victims of negligence, my legal skills are being used to help people who are in disadvantaged circumstances.
What do you like best about your career?
Enabling seriously injured clients to have better lives through the resources made available to them by the successful resolution of their cases.
