Firm Focus and History

Bailey Law Firm was established in April of 2010 and is a strong believer that a lawyer should be part of the team in making a business successful, not just an outsider to call after a problem arises. Bailey Law Firm wants to be part of your business team to focus on the legal aspects of your operations allowing you to focus on the success of your business. Small and medium entities are the backbone of the U.S.; every business deserves knowledgeable, dedicated legal counsel and representation. Not only did I come from a family of entrepreneurs and thereby learned the hurdles associated with starting and maintaining SMEs, but I also worked in business before pursuing a legal career obtaining practical knowledge of the business world.

Previous Employment Summary

I have extensive experience with contracts and real estate matters. Throughout undergrad, I worked in property management and mortgage industries. I worked with startup companies since 2003; the first as the Director of Finance & Marketing for a services company and the most recent as an associate for an environmental consulting firm.

Activities and Awards

• Pro bono work for Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program
• Member of legal advisory board for the non-profit Children at Risk

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The more clients know about their endeavors the better. An educated client makes the tasks of the attorney easier to understand and implement.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes. I will generally review documents prepared by clients and will only make changes if in the best interest of the client. Usually some changes need to be made and this is no reflection on the client. The benefit of reviewing a document from the client is that it may decrease the amount of legal fees for the client.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I'm happy to do it. Some clients prefer to represent themselves in legal issues and have an attorney provide guidance in the background. Also, there are times when having an attorney front and center of an issue will only make things worse. I have coached clients in both of these circumstances. It can be effective when it's done right.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I enjoy helping others. By focusing upon business and real estate law I help people with two of the "American Dreams." (1) Owning your own business and (2) Owning a home.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I come from a family of entrepreneurs thereby learning the hurdles associated with starting and maintaining small and medium entities and also worked in business before pursuing a legal career obtaining practical knowledge of the business world.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

By focusing upon business and real estate law I help people with two of the "American Dreams." (1) Owning your own business and (2) Owning a home.

I believe that the small medium business community is underserved and not being properly 'noticed' by other law firms and attorneys. This community is the backbone of the U.S. economy; it should be treated that way!

What do you like best about your career?

I really enjoy helping others with their passions and dreams. There is no better motivator on a 'down' day then to remember that what I do helps others pursue their goals and aspirations.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients work directly with me. I work closely with my clients' CPA's, financial planners, insurance agents, and management team. I believe that an attorney is not someone to call once there is a problem but a vital part of your business team.

What are your strengths and style?

I am detail-oriented and love to dive into a contract to make sure each comma and semicolon is correct but I also have the ability to step back and evaluate the deal in the big picture. I am also non-confrontational, which is a benefit when emotions come in to play with clients. I like to calm down any upsets and talk through a situation to make sure my client doesn't make any rash decisions.

Personal Interests:

My husband and I enjoy hiking with our two dogs, wine-tastings, movies, and reading a great book. I also enjoy cooking and volunteering with animal rescues.

Free Initial Consultation?

For new clients that mention Nolo I do offer a 45 minute free consultation either by phone or in person.

This really depends upon the services; for small services such as trademarks I require the fee plus filing costs before performing the work, but with entity formation the retainer is usually half of the total cost. For outside general counsel the retainer is typically $1,500.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
