A founding member of the firm, Jeffrey M. Axelsonâs primary practice is in business and tax law, and wealth and preservation. His clients include franchisors, franchises and many closely held service and retail businesses. He is frequently consulted regarding buying, selling, organizing and operating businesses and associations in order to minimize their liability, tax exposure, and increase profitability.
His meticulous attention to detail in addressing the myriad questions involved in business planning and acquisitions are essential factors in his minimizing many of the confrontational issues and increasing the bargaining position of his clients and their lenders, landlords, customers, and those involved in the sale and purchase of their businesses. Mr. Axelsonâs extensive experience in wealth preservation techniques assists his clients in passing the maximum amount to future generations while minimizing loss of control of assets and tax liabilities.
Mr. Axelson often volunteers in the community and serves as a director and past president of the Amity Club of Washington, a local charitable and social organization, and chairman of the Board of Trustee of the Amity Club of Washington Charitable Foundation. He has been chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Montgomery County Bar Association, for over a decade, has acted as a panel chairman for the Attorney Grievance Commission of the Maryland State Bar and is on the Judicial Selection Committee.
He has been inducted as a bar leader by the Montgomery County Bar Foundation based on his service to the legal profession and to the community. He has served as a pro bono arbitrator for the commission on the Common Ownership Communities and has won award from the Montgomery County Government and Montgomery County Bar Association for his outstanding contributions.
Jeffrey M. Axelson has been a lecturer for the Community Association Institute, the American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association. His local honors include a listing in Whoâs Who in Washington.
Mr. Axelson is a graduate of Colgate University and the Washington College of Law at American University and is admitted to practice before the courts of Maryland, Florida, the District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the United States.
