Rucker & Rucker has been a well-established law practice with over 70 years of continuous operation. Unlike other law firms, Rucker & Rucker is a family practice founded in Arlington County by the late Denman T. Rucker in the 1930s. Today his son and grandson continue the family tradition of outstanding client service and resourceful trial advocacy on behalf of their clients throughout Northern Virginia. Our firm's reputation for sound legal advice and professional integrity has grown through three generations.

My firm focuses on litigation with an emphasis on criminal defense. We also represent clients in domestic relation matters and personal injury.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

In my opinion, the most important area of law is the one where a person's liberty is at stake.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I cannot guarantee any particular result in your case. What I will guarantee is to give you access to a fair legal process and give you all the information related to your charge, including favorable and unfavorable evidence related to your case. You will be armed with the information and understanding of your case so that you can make the decisions that bear upon your immediate problem and which may affect your future interests, as well.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I regularly receive many documents in the course of representing a client and I ask that my clients review and comment on the documents. The documents prepared by a client are, however, mostly prepared during a free consultation with me. I prefer to meet in person at a free consultation to discuss a client's case, needs and concerns, and at this meeting and subsequent office meetings, client documents are prepared.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not advise representing yourself in court, especially in the area of criminal law. Usually the stakes are very high and the consequences usually dire in a complex criminal case. However, I will gladly meet with a client and explain the process, i.e. burden of proof, stages of the court proceedings, and potential evidentiary issues.

Jason Rucker

I have been in practice with Rucker & Rucker since 2001. I am primarily involved in litigation with an emphasis on criminal defense. While pursuing my education in Jackson, Mississippi, I was a law clerk and became an associate with a law firm practicing in the area of civil litigation. While in Mississippi, I left the practice with the law firm and established a private practice in Mississippi before returning to Virginia in 2001 to continue the family practice with my father, Denman A. Rucker.

Trying to be the best father and husband that I can be makes me a better lawyer. Raising my three children, including questioning them about their actions and being subjected to cross-examination by my wife has provided the best education for my work.

I am hardworking, thorough, creative, and aggressive for my clients, in all cases.
