My focus is in international business. It fits my life experiences and my interest.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I always encourage clients to educate themselves on matters of interest buy I always warn them about inaccurate information on the internet and the difficulties in attempting to form their own legal analysis.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing, but normally I need to rewrite a majority of the documents. It gives me a chance to show the client the value I bring to the table.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am normally not willing to put myself in the position of coach. This brings liability issues that can be detrimental to my practice.

Jalesia McQueen

Jalesia F. McQueen, an experienced attorney better known as Jasha, is owner and attorney of the St. Louis-based law firm, McQueen Awad LLC. A second generation immigrant fluent in Spanish, her practice areas focus on general corporate law, immigration law and international law. Jasha provides a full range of legal services to entrepreneurs, start-ups, globally minded business professionals, immigrants, foreigners, and businesses of various sizes and types. She has extensive experience from large and prestigious law firms in St. Louis. Now an established entrepreneur, she further understands the risks and frustrations associated with starting and growing a business. Prior to graduating cum laude with a law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law, she served as a captain in the U.S. Army. Jasha earned a master's degree in human resource management from Troy State University and an undergraduate degree in communications magna cum laude from the University of Tampa.

Jasha emphasizes a strong attorney-client relationship by offering flexible and flat fee arrangements and not basing fees through billing by the hour. Outside of her dedication to clients, she holds a federal appointment as one of 12 members to the Missouri Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and holds an appointment by the Governor to the Missouri Hispanic Business Trade and Culture Commission. Jasha also volunteers her services one day a month to assist Hispanic business owners at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis. Additionally, she educates aspiring business owners on the aspects of business law as a regular presenter on behalf of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and is an advisor and frequent contributor to KETC Channel 9's immigration documentary series Homeland. She also received the St. Louis Business Journal's 40 under 40Â award in 2007 and was featured as a St. Louis CharacterÂÂ in 2010.

Salim Awad

Salim E. Awad represents the interests of start-ups, entrepreneurs, globally minded business, immigrants, and businesses of various sizes and types. His legal practice concentrates on general business and corporate law, business immigration law, and international law. Salim has successfully represented clients in a wide variety of business and international matters.

Salim was born and raised in Colombia, South America, and is fluent in Spanish. He is an entrepreneur who understands the implications of starting and growing a business. Prior to graduating from Saint Louis University School of Law, Salim served as a Deep Sea Diver in the U.S. Army, serving in the Global War on Terrorism as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Further, Salim is passionate about working with small and mid-sized business clients and entrepreneurs. He is committed to learning the intricacies of your business in order to better serve as your legal counsel. Salim's commitment to entrepreneurship led him to serve as a member of the board of directors of the St. Louis Veterans Business Resource Center ("VBRC"). The VBRC is dedicated to helping men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces achieve the American dream of owning and successfully operating their own businesses.
