What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I appreciate a client who brings their ideas and views to me. Clients should be well informed.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Of course, I will review documents prepared by clients. Clients have a much better knowledge of the facts than I do. However, we may disagree as to the legal significance of those facts.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I have seen countless individuals get slaughtered in court because they do not know the procedural rules. Judges do not help the unrepresented. Even as a skilled lawyer, I have found it difficult to represent myself. Our emotions make it very hard to be detached enough to represent ourselves.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I decided to be a lawyer because of the intellectual challenges and the desire to help people.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
Before becoming a lawyer, I worked in factories and in bars, in inner cities and in small towns. This enables me to relate to all kinds of people. My formal education at two great universities has been invaluable.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
The intellectual challenge keeps it interesting. Litigation allows my competitiveness to be channeled. The executive compensation/employment allows me to counsel some very smart individuals.
What do you like best about your career?
What I like best about my career are the various intellectual challenges and my clients.
Tell us about your law firm:
I am a sole practitioner.
What are your strengths and style?
My strength is the ability to penetrate the fog surrounding each case to see clearly the legal issues; strategic thinking and negotiating ability are particular strengths.
I am intense when I need to be; I work incredibly hard to serve my clients. But, I also can relate to my clients and enjoy the opportunity to help them understand what is happening in their case.
Personal Interests:
My personal interests include serving God, skiing, golfing, and sailing.
