Continuing Education
As a board certified family law specialist, I must meet stringent continuing education requirements. I divide my time between family law seminars and collaborative law seminars. I am frequently asked to present at CPS law seminars.
Example Cases
Grandparent custody case. Both the mother and father have long standing histories of drug and alcohol abuse with some CPS involvement. As a Dallas child custody lawyer, I helped my client to obtain both emergency and permanent custody of her two young grandchildren.
Collaborative Law divorce case for a physician here in Ft. Worth. As a Fort Worth collaborative divorce attorney, I used the collaborative approach to create positive, lasting solutions. Most importantly, my client was delighted that the process helped to reduce stress for everyone.

Firm Focus and History
We are a husband and wife legal team committed to making things right for our clients. We practice family law exclusively. Because of our unique perspective, we are positioned to partner with our clients to advocate for personalized, lasting solutions to the most difficult family law problems. While our bedrock is our reputation as aggressive trial attorneys, we know good representation also takes place outside the courtroom. We are trained mediators and I am trained in Collaborative Law Divorce. A special strength of our firm is in our aggressive representation of parents accused of child abuse or neglect by The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
I opened my office in Dallas in 1992. In 1998, my wife, Holly, who is also an attorney, joined me in the practice. In 2004, we relocated our family to Fort Worth and made Fort Worth our primary office location. Today, we have offices in Fort Worth and in Dallas.
Previous Employment Summary
My advocacy for the rights and needs of children began with my first job as a CPS prosecutor in the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. After several years with a top corporate firm in Dallas, I knew that my passion was for family law.
Activities and Awards
I am frequently called upon to present continuing legal education seminars to attorneys practicing in CPS custody cases. I am a frequent volunteer at the Tarrant County Legal Line for pro bono clients.
What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
Just as I try to educate myself on other disciplines, I understand and support my Fort Worth divorce and custody clients educating themselves. An educated client is better able to intelligently participate in the decision-making process.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
For a consultation fee, I am willing to review documents prepared by others. If I have been retained by a client, my office does all of the drafting of Fort Worth divorce and child custody documents.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
This is not a part of my Tarrant county divorce lawyer and Tarrant county child custody lawyer practice.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
While in college, I decided that the practice of family law would provide me the opportunity to use my life experiences and skill to help people during difficult times.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I worked as a camp counselor for a number of years and have a strong understanding of children and their needs. As a former CPS prosecutor and psychology major, I understand the developmental needs of children and how a bitter divorce or custody battle can affect a child for many years. I am also trained as a massage therapist which has helped me understand the mind-body connection in stressful times.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
I believe I have a particular ability to listen to people, to care about their problems, and to advocate for solutions to those problems that will last over time.
What do you like best about your career?
The enduring relationships I have developed with my clients, members of the bar, and the courts here in Ft. Worth and Dallas.
Tell us about your law firm:
As an attorney with a corporate firm background, I demand competence and professionalism from everyone in my office. My paralegal and my associate attorney are fully capable of helping my clients while I'm in court. Also, my wife, Holly, is my law partner which allows us to give our clients a fresh and practical perspective on family law.
What are your strengths and style?
Simply put, I have more experience and credentials than most attorneys practicing family law. More importantly, I am very good at listening to and understanding my clients and their needs. Using what I learn from my divorce and custody clients, I work with them to find positive solutions using diplomacy, collaborative law, and mediation. In the difficult cases, we go to trial. I am a former assistant district attorney and have tried more jury trials than most of my contemporaries can dream of.
Personal Interests:
I swim, run, and bike for exercise. Recently, I have taken up Pilates and yoga. I believe these practices help me to focus and to better deal with the stress of a busy family law practice. I also love organic gardening and cooking as well as symphony and the opera.
