Law Offices of George Castrataro

Prior to establishing my own firm, I was a supervising attorney for a large Broward County non-profit law practice. Previously I founded Non-Profit Capacity Builders, Inc. (NPCB). I served for five years as NPCB President. I also held senior managerial positions with the State of Florida Department of Health and the National American Red Cross in Washington, D.C.

A timeline of snapshots from both my private and professional life depict varying examples that establish my expertise and progressive growth, all of which have contributed to my capability as a compassionate attorney.

• Nov '91 - performed CPR and resuscitated an elderly man as a volunteer EMT
• Oct '92 - taught mentally and physically challenged adults to swim at the Easter Seal Center
• Dec '93 - delivered a positive HIV test result to a young man and provided him counseling
• Apr '94 - counseled a suicidal female who voluntarily committed herself for care
• Mar '95 - developed and implemented an HIV prevention plan in Pasco County Florida
• Jul '96 - designed and taught a graduate course on HIV disease at Florida Int'l University
• Jul '96, '97 and '98 - developed and implement the Broward County HIV Prevention Plan
• Mar '97 - presented two abstracts at the National AIDS conference
• Jan '98 - completed a research study on HIV prevalence in South Florida
• Jul '99 - led the development of new system to augment reporting of diseases offering a more effective and immediate public health response in Tampa
• Jan '00 - implemented and led a strategic reorganization of a thirty person health and safety department increasing clients served by 80% while decreasing costs within the first year
• Mar '01 - led the creation of a new national HIV prevention network for the American Red Cross encompassing the entire organizational effort serving 1 million people
• Dec '02 - established a consulting corporation to facilitate non-profit capacity building
• April '03 - developed an outcome/performance matrix to measure patient outcome for a large community mental health agency
• Aug '05 - earned Juris Doctor at Florida International University (inaugural class)
• 2006 - admitted to the Florida Bar and was licensed by the U.S. District Court
• 2006 to 2008 - served as supervising attorney for a large Broward County non-profit law practice working on foreclosure defense, launched and administered the new Consumer and HIV Law unit and created the Broward Human Rights Initiative (BHRI)
• 2008 - founded the Law Offices of George Castrataro
• 2009 - added three to staff
• 2009 - selected by Broward County Commission to serve on Broward Housing Council
• 2010 - expanded offices and added two to staff

I am told that my compassion for clients, staff and business associates in general coupled with a flexible, informal style, contributes to my success and creates referral business for the firm.

I am an advocate for justice first and foremost, especially for the GLBT community.
