Example Cases

1) I represented a woman in a personal injury case that ultimately wound up in arbitration. We were awarded more than the law allowed, but the defense chose to pay the award rather than try to appeal against us.

2) I represented a disabled man who was a victim of racial discrimination in an employment context; we were able to obtain a quick and satisfactory settlement.

Firm Focus and History

Since 1998 I've been aggressively representing people who have been injured or suffered economic losses. I get to know each client personally, and do the bulk of the work on each case myself. My clients will not be relegated to a junior attorney who barely knows who they are.

Previous Employment Summary

Since 1987 I worked as a paralegal and with insurance companies.

Activities and Awards

Since 1998 I've settled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Personal Injury cases for my clients. I work on each case personally and make an effort to
maximize my clients' final result by negotiating all aspects of the claim.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think that can only help the case. I try to give my clients an overview so they can understand what I'm doing. The more they can educate themselves and understand what's going on in the process the better and less frustrating for them.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

It depends on the complexity of the case and the legal education of the client.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes, and at times can refer clients to paralegals I know or can assist them cheaply.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I used to be a paralegal, and I enjoy helping people when they don't know what to do and when they're not being treated fairly.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Being a paralegal and working for an organization in which I helped get health insurance companies to pay clients' claims.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Because that's what there is so much of. I initially started doing employment, however I was being approached with more injury cases. Also with insurance companies when bills begin to pile up, it is hard for a person to defend themselves.

What do you like best about your career?

I like the one on one contact. I do almost all the client contact myself. My assistant helps me, but I like to work with my clients closely and I know each person's case individually.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, and I have an assistant that assists me with some communication and clerical tasks however the bulk of the work goes to me. I try to be available for my clients and return calls, answer questions, and keep cases moving.

What are your strengths and style?

I can usually establish a fairly good rapport with opposing counsel and can get a settlement without the case being dragged out. Also, if there is an early settlement I extend a discount to my client.

Integrity is very important to me. My clients can rely to me. I am genuine and honest. That is how I can establish a good rapport with clients and opposition. I tell my clients exactly what I think and why I think that. I will tell my client exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are and what I can do for them.

Personal Interests:

I like to do things outdoors such as gardening, hiking, backpacking, swimming, etc.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
