Work is an integral aspect of our identities and it is the pillar on which our survival is based.
It is extremely important for clients to educate themselves on legal issues. Doing so helps people to better understand their rights, what is important, what documents may be helpful to their situation, and when to contact a lawyer for assistance or advice.
I find it tremendously helpful to review documents prepared by a client because it enables me to focus on what the client perceives as important and provides the client thoughtful time to gather their thoughts or prepare a chronology of events that helps focus our time together.
I am happy to provide such advice or coaching within the boundaries of my ethical guidelines.
After graduating from law school, I represented indigent criminal defendants in their appeals from criminal convictions in the state of California. I also specialized in representing individuals suing law enforcement for violations of civil rights and for police misconduct. Thereafter, I moved to Washington, D.C. and began working for the firm of Gebhardt and Associates specializing in employment law. Thereafter, I moved to Kalijarvi, Chuzi & Newman where I have continued to specialize in employment law.
My experience as an advocate for victims of domestic violence has helped me to be a better lawyer. I both volunteered on 24 hour hotlines and worked alongside the San Francisco District Attorney. This experience taught me a number of critical skills, particularly how to be a good listener and how to ask the right questions. Those two skills in conjunction enable to get at the root of a problem, to view it from all perspectives, and to try to reach a solution that resolves a negative situation for all parties. My goal is not litigation, but resolution.
I can be a fierce litigator if I determine that is necessary. However, I believe it is better to resolve an employment problem as soon as possible and to achieve that goal, I employ the style and strategy that will be most effective. Depending on opposing counsel, the Judge, the client, and the situation, I assess the matter and determine how best to meet my client's goals.
Personal interests:I love to travel, to read, to be outside, and to host parties for good friends.
