Free Initial Consultation?

I offer a free consultation for bankruptcy and some other services. Otherwise, it's a minimal fee of $50.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

I try to offer fixed-priced services when appropriate. I typically offer a competitive or even below market hourly rate when a fixed-price is not appropriate, such as in a contested divorce situation. I will offer a 10% discount to anyone who mentions Nolo.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I enjoyed working with individuals and small businesses to resolve financial problems during my banking career, and felt that my skills and passion were especially suited for a consumer bankruptcy practice. Also, having sold mutual funds and life insurance for a financial services firm, I've observed people who have failed to perform any estate planning or have been sold products and services that were unnecessary and/or improper for their needs. As a result, I felt there was a need for a skilled and experienced attorney who would provide practical and cost effect services for Middle America individuals and families who are often neglected by large legal firms and subject to bad advice from unknowledgeable salesmen.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe every client should educate themselves as much as possible on legal issues that impact their lives. I especially appreciate informed questions and believe that more education leads to better informed decisions.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I will review them, but I've typically found that it takes as much (if not more) time to review documents prepared by clients than it does to create the documents for them. Consequently, it will probably cost more in the long run if I have to make extensive changes to the document for it to be effective and in compliance with Arkansas law.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not advise clients to represent themselves in a bankruptcy proceeding. I will assist clients in filing pro se answers and provide guidance if they wish to represent themselves in a civil lawsuit or business dispute.

I have worked as a budget analyst at a nuclear weapons plant, commercial loan officer for banks in Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, CPA for public accounting firms in Atlanta and Little Rock, Arkansas, and as an attorney. Carrol Hicks has worked as a teacher and an attorney and has provided legal services to individuals and small businesses in Central Arkansas since 1996.

I have a wide variety of work experiences, including having performed loan workouts for large commercial banks and even managed a car repossession firm. The practical experience, combined with academic credentials of a law degree, CPA, and MBA, make me uniquely qualified to solve complex legal issues involving financial matters.

I strive to create an open and informal environment that is catered to my clients' needs. I personally meet with all of my clients, prepare the necessary documents, and attend hearings. I listen to my clients' concerns and strive to offer easily understood and straightforward solutions that solve problems in a cost effective matter.
