Continuing Education

I attend continuing legal education seminars on topics of Bankruptcy and Alternative Dispute Resolution. I generally exceed the required number of hours and prefer courses that are taught in person with a live instructor.

Example Cases

Case One:

Gentleman came into the office to discuss taking out a second mortgage on his home to pay off some debt. After looking at what he had and what his situation was, it was evident that he needed bankruptcy help and that the second mortgage would be a temporary stop gap. He told me that he had thought about bankruptcy, but that his wife was a proud individual and that she would not consider bankruptcy. We spoke for an hour or so about bankruptcy and that there is no shame in bankruptcy and that no one needed to know. I suggested that his wife come in and we could discuss the matter. His wife came in a few days later and we discussed bankruptcy and the second mortgage. After laying out their options, I was able make the couple understand that bankruptcy was the best option.

I then referred them to a friend that did bankruptcy, I was not doing bankruptcy at the time, I was practicing almost exclusively in residential real estate. The gentleman called back a few days later saying how much he appreciated the time and that they were going forward with bankruptcy. He was very appreciative with the help and advice.

Case Two.

We received a call from an individual that had been volunteering at a local hospital. She stated that a person in the hospital that she had been seeing was sick and would be needing surgery and that he did not have a will, power of attorney, or healthcare directive. He was concerned should something happen during surgery or if he didn't make it, what would happen to his belongings and assets. The situation was also troubling because his surgery was in a day. I went to the hospital that day and met with the gentlemen. He was very pleased that I would come out and meet him in the hospital. I went back to the office and drafted the documents and then took two paralegals back with me so that he could execute the documents prior to his surgery. As it turned out, all ended well and he was able to go forward without any more concern about his personal affairs.

Firm Focus and History

We are focused on helping individuals and couples filing bankruptcy and related issues. We are more than just a conduit to file forms. We want to try and help clients with the issues and problems surrounding bankruptcy and debt.

We are a new start-up firm opened in January 2011. However, we have worked in private practice in Delaware for a number of years then in the telecommunications industry for nearly 8 years problem solving and fixing problems.

Previous Employment Summary

I worked for the Law Office of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawtiz&Bhaya as the head of the Residential Real Estate Department from 1996 to 2000. I moved to North Carolina in 2000 and worked as National Contracts and Title Manager for SprectraSite Communications from 2000 until 2006. I then openned a marketing and graphics design business in 2006. In 2008 through 2010, I worked as a contractor first for TowerCo then for WFI in support of Sprint and Clear wire's network build-out.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe that clients should use whatever resources they can find to help them understand the issues that are presented to them. I also believe that generally self-help can only take you so far before you need professional help.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I will gladly review documents prepared by clients, but generally it will cost extra because of the extra time.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I have concerns about coaching clients that want to represent themselves. Generally, I have found that more problems occur and it is harder to fix.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

A family friend was an attorney who later became a judge. I always respected him and wanted to be like him. He was very intelligent and was well respected in the community.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Coming from a working class background made me grounded in life. I am a problem-solver and have always been one. Generally, friends and family come to me for help when there is a problem. Having worked both in private practice and in the corporate world, I have a unique perspective on the different areas of the law and how it's applied.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I like transactional type work, areas that tend to be more black and white and less gray. I have gone through bankruptcy myself because of a failed business, so I looked at practicing bankruptcy as a way to help others with a similar situation.

What do you like best about your career?

Helping people. Nothing is better than knowing that you made a difference in someone's life.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am solo practitioner. I prefer to talk to my clients directly. I do not believe that a client should have to deal primarily with paralegals and never know their attorney.

What are your strengths and style?

I am a problem solver that tends to get things done by picking up the phone. I dislike the impersonal use of email. I am very technically savvy, but believe there is nothing that can replace actual conversation.

Personal Interests:

I am an avid stock car enthusiast. I own my own stock car and race on the weekends throughout the summer. I love to cook, especially dinners for family and friends. I also have an interest in computers and technology. I have a small sign business that works well with my racing.
