I opened my law office in 1999 to provide elder law and estate planning services to the Colorado Springs, Tri Lakes and greater Denver metro areas. I also became a Registered Investment Adviser and founded Pikes Peak Financial Planning LLC in 2007 so that I could offer truly comprehensive legal and financial advice to my clients.
I exclusively focus on the common legal and planning needs of those in midlife and beyond. This includes planning for disability, mental incapacity or death with wills, trusts, powers of attorney, probate administration, income tax issues, and Medicaid planning.
My primary focus is on providing peace of mind for my clients. I help them clarify goals, overcome procrastination, and create a comprehensive plan for their loved ones and their assets. I bring to this endeavor my expertise in law, tax planning, investments and retirement planning to maximize wealth and family harmony, and minimize taxation and risk.
I also provide legal counsel to personal representatives as they navigate through the Colorado probate laws and procedures during estate administration.

Yes
Many people don't plan to fail, but merely fail to plan. Unchecked procrastination and uncertainty leads to stress, worry, and regret. I bring clarity, focus, and intelligent and objective counsel to inform my clients' planning.
I encourage clients to learn as much as they can about their legal problems and solutions. That said, most laymen don't know what they don't know. I ask the questions that they don't know to ask. Such questions illuminate creative new possibilities and strategies, and spotlight potential legal or tax minefields to be avoided. I spend a lot of time keeping up to date on legal and tax issues so that you don't have to.
I will review documents prepared by others and suggest revisions when necessary. However, it is usually less expensive and time-consuming for the client if I draft the document after a focused, efficient, and comprehensive interview.
I will coach clients who wish to take a "do it yourself" approach with probate administration for estates without significant creditor issues. I do not, however, recommend this approach with estate planning, disability/special needs planning, or Medicaid eligibility planning. Taxation and government benefits law are just too complex and ever-changing for the typical layman, and significant amounts of money may be lost or forfeited with poor or incomplete planning.
During law school, I interned at Heyl, Royster, Voelker and Allen, a law firm specializing in insurance defense. Upon graduation from law school, I joined the administrative staff of Electronic Decisions Incorporated, a semiconductor firm in Urbana, Illinois. From 1984 to 1994, my chief responsibilities were human resources, benefits administration, and corporate compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
During my time off, I also earned a Master's degree in Personal Financial Planning and achieved the Certified Financial Planner designation. Traditional estate planning is usually just concerned with end-of-life issues, whereas holistic life planning is concerned with maximizing choices and wealth and minimizing risk and taxation now. Everyone benefits from comprehensive and unbiased counsel for all of life's goals, so I acquired the expertise and necessary licenses to provide comprehensive planning.
My strengths are listening and asking the right questions to uncover the optimal resolution of legal problems.
Personal interests:I've always been involved with my community. Over the years, I've contributed as a volunteer domestic violence counselor, unplanned pregnancy counselor, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout assistant scoutmaster, Alzheimer's Association speaker, nursing home visitor, Toastmasters officer, and served on various boards of directors and other church, community and school district committees. My passion also includes embracing Colorado and all it offers. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, skiing, horseback riding, 4-wheeling, shooting sports, and elk hunting. Most recently, I was a muzzleloading rifle instructor for the NRA's 2010 Women's Wilderness Escape. I've been married for 30 years, and am the constant companion of a yellow Labrador retriever.
