Our firm is based on the desire to provide quality legal representation to individuals and families. Nelson Wegner LLP was created in June 2009. Monica Wegner and I started this firm to provide legal services for individuals and families. The firm offers bankruptcy services, lawsuits against harassing or abusive creditors, and assistance with foreclosures. We also offer disability rights, social security, elder law and special education law.
Example cases[Bankruptcy] I stopped a wage garnishment by filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy for a divorced mother whose ex-husband's business had failed. She wrote after the case was complete that it had been a pleasure to work with me.
I used Chapter 13 to reduce the amount owed on a car loan to help a young family get back on their feet. They had been unemployed for over a year and came to me after finding new jobs. I helped them keep their cars, writing a payment plan that cut their interest rate, reduced the principal balance and allowed them to catch up on the amount owed.
[Government] Nelson Wegner is fighting to keep a disabled woman in the facility that has been her home her entire life. http://kenwoodpress.com/pub/a/5301
In addition to the usual disability law, we also provide expertise in Special Education law, representing parents of disabled children.

We offer a free initial consult of up to an hour. We take the time to understand your case and advise you of your options.
We always charge a flat rate for a bankruptcy and the rate is agreed to before a contract is signed. To file a law suit that is not a bankruptcy, we either agree to a contingency fee or an hourly fee billed against a retainer depending on the case. If you mention this listing with Nolo, we will lower your flat bankruptcy fee by $150 dollars.
Varies depending on the type of case. We take some cases on contingency.

In 2008 the financial crisis crashed the economy. I was working in corporate litigation and decided I wanted to use my legal skills to help the people who were at risk of losing their jobs and losing their houses. Bankruptcy allows me to offer solutions to overwhelming financial problems.
At Nelson Wegner we encourage people to learn as much as possible about the law related to their case. To facilitate this, we provide frequently asked questions pages on our website.
I'm always happy to look at documents clients have prepared. They help me to better understand the facts and circumstances of a case. Clients who have prepared documents are able to make a more intelligent decision about what services they need from an attorney.
Clients who want to represent themselves can buy an attorney's time to discuss their options. At Nelson Wegner we usually charge flat fees to file a case, so if a client needs a lot of coaching, it may be more cost effective to hire us.
Before law school, I held a variety of student jobs, but devoted most of my time and attention to graduate studies. I also taught as a lecturer at Santa Clara University in their religious studies department.
During law school I continued to teach. I also held internships at the State Court of Appeal in San Francisco and with the Pro Bono Project of Indiana.
After law school I worked on large law suits for corporate clients. After three years of legal practice, I opened Nelson Wegner, so I could work for individuals and families. I work to help the people hit hardest by the financial crisis.
I put myself through school with no financial help from parents or relatives, although I did receive some scholarships. I took many jobs to help pay for my education. I learned to work hard. I also learned how to interact with all kinds of people. I learned to work efficiently and to use whatever tools it takes to get the job done.
I am a good listener and I work with my clients to listen to them and learn the details I need to represent them effectively. I take the time to return phone calls and emails. I respond to people's requests and work with them to make sure they understand what is going on with their case.
Personal interests:I grew up in Northern California. I love to get out in the natural beauty we enjoy around the Bay Area, hiking and bird watching. I am married and I spend significant time with my husband, family and friends. I read for fun as well as for work. I cook and enjoy experimenting with recipes.
