Firm Overview

My husband began a private law office in 2006 while I was still in public service. In 2008, the two of us established Hatfield Law Firm.

We represent clients in a variety of legal situations including divorce and custody matters, probate/estates, wills and trust, personal injury, car and truck accidents and wrongful death. We also practice real estate law, including deed preparations, title searches, title insurance and closings. We pride ourselves on providing aggressive representation, as well as compassionate and personalized service. We are also Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys (felony prosecutors) for the 42nd Judicial Circuit of Kentucky.

Example cases

I have assisted clients in negotiating an equitable divorce that places their children first. During the tough transitions of divorce, the children are often the most damaged parties as the parents bicker and fight over assets. I help to remind clients that at the end of the day, the children are their most important shared assets.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I truly enjoy working for my clients in both divorce cases and probate cases. Every person deserves to have someone represent their interests and explain the process as they proceed.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe it is important for a client to know the underlying elements of their case so that they can be a productive member of their own legal team.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I would be glad to review any information a client brings to me.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I think representing oneself is risky and generally a bad idea, even for lawyers. I would advise against hiring a lawyer to coach a client through a case.

I worked as a Staff Attorney for the Honorable Laurence VanMeter of the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 2004-2005; Assistant Public Advocate for the Department of Public Advocacy, Murray Trial office from 2005-2008; Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney 2008 to present as well as partner in Hatfield Law Firm.

I have been an appellate attorney, a defense attorney, a prosecutor and a civil attorney. I have interacted with people from every strata and feel I can assist my clients in relating the strengths of their case no matter the situation. My husband is my partner both at home and at work. This provides our clients with the unique experience of two lawyers for the price of one. We are able to draw from the strengths of the other to provide the best representation to our clients. We provide a family-like atmosphere to which many of our clients respond positively.

I enjoy public speaking, I am passionate in representing my client's interests, and I enjoy formulating a winning argument.

Reading, crochet, philanthropic groups, outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and gardening.
