Bankruptcy Chapter 7 generally is $1,500 plus costs of $299 Chapter 13 $2,500 to $3,500 plus costs. Family Court/Divorce depends on the case and how complicated/contested. I would have to speak to the client first.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Bankruptcy - I liked the idea of helping people get a fresh start most people who file bankruptcy fall into financial difficulty through no fault of their own unemployment health issues, etc.

Family and divorce - I find the legal issues interesting but find that divorce especially requires other skills because you find people at their most fragile emotionally difficult periods. I think mediation should be used more especially when it comes to custody issues.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I have no problem with that. I think a client who is educated on legal issues makes it easier to represent and/or give them explanations as long as client understands that the law is complicated. They should always verify their understanding of the law with a professional.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I will review documents after I am retained. I find that the more information that I can obtain from a client the easier it is for me to represent and/or understand the nature of the problem.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am somewhat reluctant to do so. I will give an initial consultation, but as far as coaching a client to represent themselves I am either representing them or not.
