Previous Employment Summary

I have been a practicing attorney since 1985.

Activities and Awards

I provide pro bono assistance to several organizations, including a senior center (Capitol Hill Village), the local chamber of commerce (Capitol Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals), the Institute of World Affairs, and the David A. Clark School of Law clinical educational program.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We believe that a client's best interest is served if he or she is as fully informed as possible about legal issues that affect his or her life.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

This is a standard practice in our firm.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We will coach clients informally on occasion.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to enter a profession that is dedicated to service to others less fortunate than myself.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have traveled widely on business to some of the poorest parts of the world. The perspective gained through travel and working with people who lead lives that are far different, and in most cases much more difficult, provide me with the humility and empathy often required of lawyers in the United States.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

My over-arching goal is to provide quality and affordable services to clients on issues that are important to their everyday lives.

What do you like best about your career?

The ability to decide for myself about what issues on which to focus my energies.

Tell us about your law firm:

Our clients work with a friendly, responsive and caring team of lawyers, paralegals and interns.

What are your strengths and style?

We focus on creative problem-solving that is responsive and timely.

Personal Interests:

Reading, music, travel, and outdoor activities.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
