What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I encourage clients to educate themselves on the legal issues of their case. I believe that a client who has investigated their case is in a better position to ask pertinent questions to their attorney and engage in a productive dialogue. In the immigration context, an attorney and his or her client are a team working together for a common goal. A client who is engaged in the process is most likely to obtain positive results in their immigration case.
Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Yes. I am willing to review documents prepared by clients.
Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I am willing to provide consultation to clients who want to represent themselves. However, I prefer to provide full service representation. My office charges a flat fee for most immigration cases.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I have always been interested in different cultures and meeting people from around the world. At the same time, I have always felt strongly about advocating for social justice. I found that being an immigration lawyer allowed me to combine these two interests.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I have a B.A. in international development studies, and I have lived outside the United States. I also learn from each client about their personal histories and backgrounds.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
Please see above.
What do you like best about your career?
I like the fact that I am able to meet people from all different backgrounds. It is also very satisfying to help a client obtain their immigration goals.
Tell us about your law firm:
I am a solo practitioner, which enables me to have a close individual relationship with my clients.
What are your strengths and style?
I am dedicated to my clients.
I enjoy contact with my clients. I want my clients to feel that they can approach me and ask me questions about their case without worrying about increasing their legal bill. That is why I charge fixed fees instead of an hourly fee and why I provide my clients my cell phone number.
Personal Interests:
I enjoy raising my little baby daughter and running.
