Papers and Publications

Over the years I have published numerous papers and articles on the law and have published several consumer books of law including:
• Five Deadly Sins That Can Wreck Your Car Accident Case
• Why Most Malpractice Victims Never Recover Time
• Robbery Without a Gun, Why Your Employer's Long-Term Disability Policy May Be a Sham

There are literally hundreds of articles available at my website and throughout the internet on virtually every personal-injury topic imaginable.

Example Cases

Each case is different and no representation is made that past results are a guarantee of future success. Mine include a verdict of over $3 million against a urologist for a man who lost his penis.

In another case of a late diagnosis of colon cancer, a verdict of $1 million was recovered.

In another case against a truck driver, a verdict of $850,000 was recovered.

More information about past verdicts and settlements are available here.

Firm Focus and History

I have been practicing law since 1983. This firm was established in 1995. We focus on representing seriously injured people in the Northern Virginia area. We also represent claimants in disability insurance policies both individual and group.

If you have been injured in an accident, before you speak to the adjuster, hire an attorney or sign any forms first, get our free books, CDs and information packages about your claim. You may not need to hire an attorney at all. An educated claimant has the best opportunity to maximize recovery in their case. Before choosing an attorney most clients request and read our book, "The Truth about Lawyer Advertising."

Previous Employment Summary

I was an associate, and then a partner, in a small medical malpractice and personal injury law firm in Arlington Virginia from 1983 to 1995. That firm was Shevlin and Glass

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

There are many cases in which clients do not need an attorney. There are also many cases where they do not need an attorney right now. However, they do need quality information before speaking to the adjuster, signing any forms or hiring an attorney. To the publication of books CDs and DVDs, together with hundreds of videos, I seek to educate the public about their legal situation before they speak to an adjuster or hire an attorney.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

This really is not applicable to my practice areas.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We do offer coaching and consulting in personal injury cases. We will advise a client of our fees for this type of advice. Fees typically run between $500 and $1,500 depending on the nature of the case.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I'm a problem solver and I am good at it. I'm able to use my legal experience and knowledge along with my broad-based business experience to help people solve problems, often without litigation. I became a lawyer because I thought that I could use my skills to help people solve problems.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I'm the father of nine children. I've educated my children in public schools in Virginia. I've been practicing law for almost 30 years. I'm also a business consultant to hundreds of small businesses across the country. My speaking, writing, and consulting experience, when combined with the many years I've been practicing law, help make me a better lawyer.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

People who have been injured by the carelessness of others often have many fears. Not the least of which is that they will lose their homes because of the mounting, and sometimes uncontrollable, medical bills that they are incurring. I can help people through these times of crisis and this is why I am a personal injury/medical malpractice attorney.

What do you like best about your career?

The fact that I get to meet hundreds of interesting people each year. The people I represent, the doctors who treat them and, quite often, the defendants. The lawyers representing insurance companies are also very interesting people who are usually very smart and doing the best job they can for their clients.

Tell us about your law firm:

My assistant is Terry Patterson. She and I have been working together for over 15 years. I'm supported by two case management assistants, Laura Wilson and Brad Barna. These are the people that clients will be working with. They're all very experienced and knowledgeable. It is easy to get access to me and to get the answers you need as well.

What are your strengths and style?

I approach all legal cases with commonsense and a rational attitude toward success. We do not over promise results. We do not rely on hype and crazy advertising. We do not believe that yelling and screaming gets good results. We are logical and analytical and clinical.

Personal Interests:

Raising my nine children and being married for almost 30 years to my best friend. I am a marathon runner and sports coach.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

Since we're personal injury attorneys most of our cases are handled on a contingency basis. We represent children who've been injured in car accidents in Northern Virginia and some cases can be settled without filing a lawsuit for free. This applies to children 12 years and younger at the time of the accident. In a typical personal injury case, if we can get your case settled before filing the lawsuit, the fee is 25% of the recovery. The fee once a lawsuit is filed is typically one third of the recovery.

Hourly Rates

In disability cases Mr. Glass's hourly rates are $750 an hour however, most of the work is quoted on a flat fee basis depending on the nature of the case.

Free Initial Consultation?

We do offer a free consultation. However, we require that before someone schedules a free consultation that they request and review our free information packages consisting of books DVDs and CDs. The length of the free initial consultation depends on the circumstances and this will be discussed on an initial phone call.

Typical Retainer

We typically do not require funds up front for personal injury cases. In other cases, each is individualized and this will be discussed in an initial phone call.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
