Firm Focus and History

As aggressive consumer rights advocates, our attorneys represent consumers throughout Arizona and California in a variety of legal matters, including:

• Bankruptcy (Chapters 7, 11 and 13)
• Creditor Harassment
• Collections and Repossessions
• Debt Relief
• Garnishments
• Credit Repair
• Credit Card Disputes
• Credit Bureau Problems
• Foreclosure Defense
• Foreclosure Rescue/Modification Scams
• Predatory Lending
• Investment & Securities Fraud
• Identity Theft

Many of the cases we take on involve a single consumer going up against a large company that may have extensive legal resources to devote to countering any claim or lawsuit brought against them. With a consumer rights attorney from Stockton Law Offices at your side, you have the opportunity to counter their legal actions with aggressive legal representation of your own. We assist clients throughout California and Arizona in these situations, using our experience and resources to assert their rights as consumers.

Your initial consultation with a consumer rights/bankruptcy lawyer is entirely free. This will be your opportunity to discuss your situation with an attorney who understands what you are going through and has the backing of a skilled legal team and extensive resources to apply to handling your case. You can recover from even the most ruinous loss. Our firm can help you reach toward the brighter future and second chance you deserve.

We give excellent and personalized care to all of our clients. We represent individuals who file for bankruptcy on personal as well as business debts. I represent companies that need to file for bankruptcy for either Chapter 7 (dissolution) or Chapter 11 (reorganization). I also represent debtors who want to try to discharge student loans due to a disability or other hardship.

Previous Employment Summary

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, College of Law, in 1985. I am admitted to practice in the States of California and Arizona.

I began my career with the national law firm of O'Connor Cavanagh (now Greenberg Traurig). I have extensive experience in securities and real estate litigation, real estate lending, and bankruptcy matters.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We are in a tough environment and everyone has to do what is necessary to survive. Clients should read up on bankruptcy issues, but understand that there are laws and procedures that guide us. Each court has its unique characteristics and only regular practice gives the attorney full knowledge of how to navigate the system to the client's advantage. The good news is that our cost can be covered several times over in the money we save for our clients. We also aggressively pursue debt collector violations on contingency. In that sense, your bankruptcy or consumer case could actually pay you from the damages we collect from unruly debt collectors. While there is no guarantee that this will occur in your case, these violations are becoming more common place as the debt collection community balloons with the recent, severe economic downturn.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Unless we are hired, we cannot look at documents and advise clients. That said, we are happy to look at a client's documents and to work closely with them on their case when we are hired. It is your case, not ours, and we know our clients have the best command of the facts. A successful outcome requires that our client be enthusiastically engaged with us to win their case.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We will happily provide a free, initial consultation. However, if we are not hired, then we are not interested in coaching.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I grew up very poor, and wanted to be a professional in the worst way. I also hated it when people of modest means were being harassed by well-capitalized bullies. I wanted to even the score.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

After graduating from law school and practicing for a few years, I left the practice for a time and started a trust company which evolved into a national investment complex including a bank. With that success behind me, I semi-retired in the late 1990's and chose to re-enter law to help people. My early financial success gave me the luxury of being able to select my cases without worrying about paying the electric bills. I would venture that nobody should become a lawyer until they have had the experience of being a client. I have been both and it gives me a lot of empathy for our clients and their circumstances.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Representing David against Goliath comes naturally to me.

What do you like best about your career?

Winning.

Tell us about your law firm:

We are a small firm and clients deal directly with their lawyer. Our staff is attentive as well and we pride ourselves on flexibility and availability.

What are your strengths and style?

We offer a peaceful island in your storm. We are calm, cool, collected, and calculating. When you have us on your team, you will begin to sleep again.

Personal Interests:

I have three children, two grandchildren, and a wonderful family. We enjoy all that Arizona and California have to offer. That ranges from seeing the stars at night in the desert skies north of Phoenix to boating in Newport Harbor.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

For Chapter 7 cases, the flat fee for a Nolo client begins at $1,200 plus the filing fees. The exact amount of the fee is determined by the complexity of the particular case, number of creditors, and anticipated additional services; such as motions to value your home and avoid liens.

Chapter 13 work is based upon the fee schedule set forth by the court. A typical retainer for a Chapter 13 will be $2,000.

Bankruptcy litigation is based on hourly work.

Hourly Rates

Range from $250 to $400 per hour depending on the experience required for the undertaking.

Free Initial Consultation?

Yes, typically one hour but nobody is watching the clock.

Typical Retainer

Retainers vary depending on a variety of factors. We do our best to make our services affordable. Suffice it to say that we recognize that our clients are not General Motors.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
