Salazar v. Buono (2010) Definition
A U.S. Supreme Court case in which a sharply divided plurality of the Court refused to find an Establishment Clause violation when Congress passed a law allowing an acre of public land to be transferred to a private group so that a cross could be maintained on the land. Salazar is often referred to as an Establishment Clause decision, but the Court never reached the Establishment Clause merits of the case. Instead, the Court found that a lower court had applied an incorrect standard to the case and remanded it for further consideration.
