Nonimmigrant Definition

People who come to the United States temporarily, with a nonimmigrant visa, for some particular purpose. A nonimmigrant must depart the U.S. within a designated length of time, and in most cases may not act with the intention of remaining in the U.S. permanently. There are many types of nonimmigrants. Students (such as F-1 or M-1), temporary workers, and visitors (B-1 and B-2) are some of the most common.
