Exempt Employee Definition

An employee who meets the requirements of an exemption category under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or under state law, which typically apply only to white collar employees who receive a certain minimum salary. Exempt employees are not entitled to extra pay for overtime hours.
