Clinton v. City of New York (1998) Definition

A U.S. Supreme Court case declaring the line-item veto unconstitutional because it gave the president the power to amend or repeal laws in violation of the presentment clause (U.S. Const. art. I, § 7, cl. 2). The Constitution assigns the power to amend or repeal laws to Congress.
