Ancillary Administration: A probate court proceeding conducted in a different state from the one the deceased person resided in at the time of death. Usually, ancillary probate is necessary if the deceased person owned real estate in another state. For example, if Tatiana dies in Montana, where she had been living, and leaves a parcel in Columbus, Ohio, then there must be ancillary administration in Ohio probate court to transfer the property.
